GPRS
EDMI’s reputable General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) implementation allows for a cost-efficient transfer of energy metering data. It offers users persistent and non-persistent connections, depending on the telecommunications provider. Data can be pushed to a server at predefined intervals or triggered through an SMS push.
RF Solutions
In selecting a communications technology solution, EDMI provides a wide range of choices that that best suit the customers’ needs. Recently, EDMI has been actively developing a Zigbee 2.4 GHz radio mesh solution, using off the shelf modules. These modems plug into the RS232 port of the meters, drawing power from the meter modem power supply which is ideally suited to retrofit scenarios.
SCADA
Using the industry standard MODBUS RTU and DNP3.0 protocols, EDMI meters neatly integrate into utility and industrial SCADA systems. Various communications connections are available in RS232 and RS485 topologies.
Power Quality
EDMI’s grid metering devices offer the unique value of power quality indication features. This allows the utility to place their revenue meters at strategic locations to measure energy and also provides an indication of power quality without requiring expensive and complicated instrumentation.
Available features include:
- Voltage sag/swell
- Harmonics (up to the 50th)
- Total harmonic distortion
- Unbalance
- Waveform capture
