EDMI continued Osaki’s proud, 30-year tradition of Indonesian trust and confidence with a successful display of its world-leading smart energy meters at Indonesia-Japan Expo 2013.

Indonesia and Japan’s 55-year friendship is the envy of many, and this year’s exposition continued that partnership, with Indonesia inviting Japanese companies to exhibit their latest advances. The event carried the theme of “Smart Community: Be Smart, Be Inspired”, and more than 100 Japanese companies participated.

EDMI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osaki and their contribution of their Atlas and Genius series of advanced, three-phase smart meters certainly fit the expo theme. Their smart flexibility and reliability inspired booth attendees and, along with Osaki’s long established relationship with Indonesia and PLN, has further improved EDMI’s reputation in the region.

Long-serving Osaki Chairman, Mr Yoshihide Watanabe, was pleased to be able to meet prominent guests at the EDMI showcase, from both Japan and Indonesia. Among the many honoured guests, Mr Watanabe shared EDMI’s products and vision with his Excellency, former Prime Minister of Japan, Yasuo Fukuda, along with Mr. Yoshinori Katori, Japanese Ambassador in Indonesia, and Professor Ginanjar Kartasasmita, Speaker of Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council from 2004 to 2009.

In addition, Mr. Rachmat Gobels, Chairman of Indonesia Japan Friendship Association, visited the booth as well and has given his deepest gratitude to OSAKI and EDMI for participating in their grand event.

It was a great honour for EDMI to be part of a symbiotic relationship history that embarked the future of Indonesia’s next generation.

LONDON, UK, 13th January 2014 – EDMI, leading global smart meter solution provider, today announced that it has been awarded the supply of 45,000 smart electricity meters equipped with GSM/GPRS modems, to global telecommunication systems vendor, Intracom Telecom, for the rollout of smart electricity meters for commercial, industrial and residential Low Voltage customers in Greece.

This project is the first mass deployment of LV smart electricity meters in Greece covering more than 10 per cent of the country’s electrical energy consumption, as well as renewable energy sources metering. The integration of smart meters with Telemetry software will provide an Advanced Metering Infrastructure solution, eliminating the need for onsite meter reading visits, increasing power network quality, monitoring load conditions and will offer customers daily information on their consumption at 15 minute intervals. Setup by HEDNO, a subsidiary of Public Power Cooperation that owns and operates the distribution network of electrical energy in Greece, the deployment has been awarded to the Intracom group of companies after an international tender. Beyond implementation, smart metering will enable HEDNO to offer advanced charging scenarios to its customers and will allow for the ability to rationalise and optimise energy generation.

HEDNO’s implementation is the first step in a country-wide roll out that will include more than seven million electricity meters.

Chris Kontellis, general manager of Intracom Telecom commented, “Working with our client, HEDNO, we selected the EDMI Mk10A meter as it’s the only meter in the marketplace that has the capability to fulfil all of our requirements.

David Stroud, general manager at EDMI Europe stated, “We are thrilled to be a partner in this first volume smart meter rollout in Greece and this contract win further emphasises EDMI’s strength in providing technologically advanced smart meters. Such a forward-thinking project in a new market will only continue to elevate the importance of smart meters for other countries around the world.

EDMI NZ Limited (EDMI) has secured an agreement to deliver over 40,000 meters to powerlines company, PowerNet, a key member of the joint venture, SmartCo.  This takes EDMI’s total meter deliverables to SmartCo members to more than 75,000 meters.

The growing partnership with EDMI will help SmartCo and its members to deliver high quality smart meter services to energy retailers.

The partnership comes after a comprehensive three-year tender process in which SmartCo identified EDMI as one of its strategic suppliers.  Gavin Lennox, SmartCo’s General Manager, said the result is positive news for New Zealand retailers and consumers.

PowerNet manages the smart meter programme for Electricity Invercargill Limited (EIL) and The Power Company Limited (TPCL).

Jason Franklin, PowerNet’s Chief Executive, said EDMI’s meters and solutions form part of a $24 million project to improve PowerNet’s capability to manage network security and reliability. “Consumers will see the benefits as their electricity retailers start to use the smart metering technology,” he said.

PowerNet acknowledged the importance of EDMI smart metering and smart-grid solutions in helping them manage their smart networks in real time.

“We will be able to see exactly where faults are occurring, measure energy loss between substations and consumers and manage peak loads,” said Mr Franklin.

“The data we provide to retailers will enable them to work with their customers to change the way they use electricity in the future,” he said.

This announcement comes after EDMI New Zealand confirmed arrangements with On Metering (a joint venture between Network Tasman and Alpine Energy, and member of SmartCo) to deliver similar services on the MainPower network in the North Canterbury region. Together the agreements make up a significant portion of the SmartCo roll-out.

Smart Communications; Smart Networks

EDMI will work with Silver Spring Networks (SSN) chosen by SmartCo to supply RF Mesh communications and the SSN Utility IQ™ back office system, to deliver enhanced smart metering technology to SmartCo members and their customers.

“This partnership with SmartCo is an exciting opportunity for EDMI, and our second major project with Silver Spring Networks globally,” said EDMI New Zealand General Manager, Anak Lumb.

“It clearly establishes EDMI as a strong player across the smart metering spectrum in the Australasian region and internationally,” he said, “and will deliver progressive smart metering solutions to SmartCo customers.”
