Singapore, 20 December, 2017 – Singtel and global smart metering solutions provider EDMI Limited are collaborating to develop a smart electricity metering infrastructure for Singapore.

The partners have successfully tested smart electricity meters, powered by seamless connectivity on Singtel’s nationwide Cat-M1 cellular Internet of Things (IoT) network. The combination of smart meters with the IoT network enables the secure wireless transmission of real-time meter readings at regular intervals to the power grid. It also allows electricity suppliers to monitor electricity consumption and forecast demand more accurately.

“Giving electricity suppliers real-time data on electricity consumption allows them to optimise the distribution of electricity to certain areas and times of the day especially when demand is peaking,” said Mr Andrew Lim, Business Group Managing Director at Singtel’s Group Enterprise. “The pairing of smart meters with our IoT network will give consumers more accurate meter readings and ultimately bring cost savings.”

This latest collaboration further cements the partnership between Singtel and EDMI. Singtel currently provides machine-to-machine connectivity for EDMI’s digital electricity meters in Singapore. With the Energy Market Authority planning to roll out smart meters in the second half of 2018, the partners aim to offer their IoT-driven smart metering solutions across the city’s residential, commercial and industrial areas.

“We are happy to partner with Singtel to demonstrate the use of its cellular IoT network for a nationwide smart meter roll-out,” said Mr How New Seng, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at EDMI. “As a leading smart metering solutions provider, EDMI is constantly on the lookout for cutting-edge technologies to bring greater value to our customers. With low-power footprint of the Cat-M1 technology, our smart metering solutions allow customers to reduce technical losses and work towards a greener power grid.”

The success of the smart metering trial with EDMI signals the readiness of Singtel’s IoT network to support the digital transformation of various Singapore-based enterprises. Singtel’s Cat-M1 IoT network went live in September 2017. It has been conducting trials with over 20 potential partners at an IoT innovation lab that was set up with Ericsson earlier in the year.

“Apart from the energy sector, Singtel’s IoT network can bring innovation and boost efficiencies across industries including healthcare, manufacturing, environmental services and technology.” Mr Lim said. “The seamless connectivity and secure infrastructure provided by our IoT network heralds the evolution of telcos from service providers to business enablers.”

SINGAPORE, 5th October, 2017 – EDMI Limited, a leading smart metering solutions provider, has been recognized with the 2017 Asia Pacific AMI Solutions Company of the year by Frost & Sullivan.

The award was presented to EDMI at the 2017 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Best Practices Awards banquet held at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore on 4th October.

“EDMI is one of the leading companies offering AMI solutions in the APAC region,” said Avanthika Satheesh, Industry Analyst for Energy & Environment at Frost & Sullivan. “In 2016, the company was the market leader in ANZ, and has won a significant number of projects in APAC region,” she said.

Frost & Sullivan recognized that EDMI has structured its solutions to meet the needs of wide range of energy industry participants – across retail, distribution, generation and other utility services.

EDMI’s state-of-the-art AMI solutions utilize 4G communication technology and processes real-time data using Big Data analytics. “With their product innovation and end-to-end AMI solutions, the company has effectively addressed the unmet customer needs in the market,” said Ms. Satheesh, “and this has helped them expand their customer base in the region.”

“EDMI’s customer centric approach ensures the clients receive the best value for their investments in AMI solutions. This has helped them win customer trust and repeated orders, which was key to the company’s success in the region in 2016,” she said.

“EDMI is proud to be recognized as Asia Pacific AMI Solutions Company of the year,” said Lee Kwang Mong, Chairman of EDMI Limited.

“With our almost 40 years of experience in smart metering, EDMI continues providing high quality and reliable products to our customers worldwide. This award recognition gives them more trust and confidence in selecting EDMI for their smarter energy management,” he said.

Quantum Automation, a subsidiary of EDMI, was awarded the Minister’s Award (MND), during 2017 National Day Observance Ceremony, for its work on the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) SkyLab project.

Quantum Automation delivered the Data Acquisition Building Management System (DABMS) for SkyLab and is extremely honoured to have been a part of the overall project.

The BCA SkyLab is the worlds’ first high rise rotable laboratory for the tropics. It was officially launched by Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in July 2016, and is the regional leader in sustainable building solutions.

Quantum Automation looks forward to a continued relationship as BCA makes new breakthroughs and provides valuable insights; develop high-performance innovations and solutions around energy efficient technologies; and help reduce our everyday energy consumption. We applaud and will continue to support BCA: driving and pushing the boundaries in the green building movement.

Built on the rooftop of an 8-storey building at BCA Academy, the BCA SkyLab marks a milestone in the research, development and demonstration of green building technologies in the region. This state-of-the-art test facility was developed in collaboration with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in the US, inspired by LBNL’s FLEXLAB (Facility for Low Energy Experiment in Buildings) and tailored for Singapore’s tropical climate.

With its “plug-n-play” design concept, the BCA SkyLab is capable of testing individual building components as well as integrated systems. Technologies such as lighting, air-conditioning, mechanical ventilation and building facade can be tested in various configurations under real operating and climatic conditions. This provides reliable and comprehensive evaluation of building technologies, facilitating technology improvement and adoption by the industry. One of the unique features of the BCA SkyLab is a 360-degree rotatable capability, allowing the test of technology performance under different building orientations.

EDMI residential smart meters approved and ready for deployment

Hook, United Kingdom, 19th July, 2017: EDMI Europe Limited (EDMI), a leading smart metering solutions provider, has been granted Commercial Product Assurance (CPA) certification from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) for both its electricity and gas SMETS2 smart meters. EDMI is one of the first meter suppliers to have all required certifications to install SMETS2 meters into a live environment which are now ready for deployment as part of the residential smart meter rollout in Great Britain.

The dual fuel meters are recognised as SMETS2 compliant having met all of the security requirements necessary for the Governments national programme, and are to be noted on the Certified Products List (CPL) shortly. This follows the CPA certification for its Communications Hub for the North region gained last year, which has already begun installations.

The UK SMETS2 smart meter rollout programme has been well documented to improve the customer experience when changing supplier and benefits from strict cyber security controls, as opposed to earlier foundation and SMETS1 meters. This assures the best and most fit for purpose products having undergone rigorous CPA certification.

“We are incredibly proud to have achieved this significant milestone for our SMETS2 dual fuel meters, and now we are able to provide a full end-to-end solution for one of the largest major energy infrastructure upgrades ever in Great Britain,” commented Alan Masterman, General Manager, EDMI Europe. “As we prepare for the commencement of the rollout in force, we also continue our commitment to the development of products to ensure we provide the most technology advanced solutions to best meet market demands, our customers and end consumers now and in the future.”

Over the last year, EDMI Europe has relocated and opened two larger offices, including a head office in Hook, and a support office Newcastle. Both moves were in preparation to provide sufficient support for its customers during the next phase of the residential smart meter rollout in Great Britain, as well as for further expansion and product development for other European country requirements.
