EDMI, a global leader in the provision of smart metering solutions, has partnered with IoTerop, a leading IoT device management software company, to offer Lightweight Machine to Machine (LwM2M) and Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) capabilities in its newly released DN20 ultrasonic water meters. The DN20 meter will provide near real-time data so that consumers can track their water consumption and make informed decisions about their water usage. Dual D batteries in the meters enable 20+ years of battery life, and extensive in-house ALT (accelerated life testing) was done to ensure a long life on the field.

Having served the Australian market since 1978, EDMI has deployed more than 5  million electricity and gas meters in Australia alone. EDMI recently recognized the need for a highly-customized water metering device that was built on open standards and delivered at a price point that maximizes the business benefits of deploying smart water meters. The DN20 also features a STM32 chipset, allowing for a very high performance, real-time capabilities, digital signal processing, and low‑power and low‑voltage operation. It also comes with an exclusive one-touch commissioning, allowing for rapid field deployments.

EDMI is proud to offer our clients cutting-edge DN20 ultrasonic smart water meters,” said David Roe, Product Lead for Smart Water at EDMI Australasia. “Our use of IOWA allowed for a much shorter time to market, and IOWA’s thorough documentation, simple API, and excellent support were key components of the DN20’s successful launch,” he said.

Due to the size and environmental factors, the Australian landscape offers unique challenges and opportunities when it comes to water metering,” said Hatem Oueslati, CEO of IoTerop. “We are passionate about offering organizations the ability to quickly create interoperable products that can communicate on open networks in order to advance smart metering efforts around the world. Our technologies not only allow for rapid deployment, but contribute significantly to keeping products on the field longer thanks to extended battery life, firmware updates over the air (FOTA), and top-notch security,” he said.

EDMI announces that Andrew Thomas has been appointed the new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of EDMI Group, effective from 20 October 2022.

Andrew has spent over 20 years inside the EDMI Group in two engagements, first joining the organisation in 1998 as an intern while completing his Bachelor of Engineering at The University of Queensland, for which he received the University Medal. Most recently, Andrew has been the Executive Director of the EDMI ANZ region. In this role, Andrew has driven significant growth in EDMI sales and market share in ANZ, through both the delivery of the EDMI’s AMI 2.0 Solution using the EDMI Energy Cloud into the Power of Choice rollout in Australia, and the introduction of EDMI’s first cellular smart gas and water solutions into the market.

In addition to his time spent at EDMI, Andrew has been involved in R&D, project delivery, sales & marketing and leadership roles in metering service, technology and manufacturing organisations across Australia, the UK and Singapore.

Andrew Thomas commented, “I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to elevate EDMI and the Osaki Group to the next level in the global Energy Solutions Market. EDMI is well positioned to play a crucial role in society’s push towards carbon net zero, and I feel privileged to be a part of this important energy transition.

EDMI’s new solutions brand, MIRA, for use in smart metering solutions marks the start of a new era of value and choice for the Global Energy Solution Leader’s retail, distribution and metering services customers and consumers.

The MIRA brand provides a renewed focus for EDMI’s divergent products and services, bringing clarity to EDMI’s portfolio and delivering trust and certainty for its partners and users.

Over the company’s 40+ years of operations, EDMI has built a leading position as a meter manufacturer which has evolved with the international smart metering solutions market into a position of thought and market leadership. To date, EDMI has provided highly scalable and future-proof software solutions that are providing asset management for more than 6 million metering points globally.

A key feature of EDMI’s MIRA-branded solutions is their endless adaptability and flexibility. MIRA solutions are communications agnostic, enabling end-to-end visibility and control based on industry standard protocols such as DLMS, IDIS and LWM2M, over a wide range of bearer services including 4G, NB-IoT, RF Mesh and more. The MIRA AMI supports seamless, interoperable integration upstream and down-stream, delivering more choice and lower integration costs.

We are now taking the opportunity to evolve our brand to better represent EDMI’s diverse expertise and align it with our refined value proposition and vision,” said Roy Kirsopp, Group Chief Executive Officer at EDMI. “Under this new brand MIRA, we will continue to provide reliable and seamless smart metering solutions to our valued and prospective customers globally,” he added.

EDMI announces that Roy Kirsopp has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EDMI Group, effective from 5 July 2022. Roy succeeds How New Seng, who remains a Board member of Osaki United International to advise the Group.

Roy joined EDMI in 2018 as the General Manager (New Energy) of EDMI Europe. In 2020, he was promoted to Group Sales Director responsible for global alignment of products and solutions, strategic market and brand positioning, marketing and sales pipeline management. In his role as Group Sales Director, he made a number of improvements to the sales and operational transformation that led to building the most effective organisation to support the company’s strategy.

Prior to joining EDMI, Roy has over 30 years of experience in sales, marketing and product management spanning multiple industries such as energy, telecoms, media and technology.

Roy Kirsopp commented, “I’m honoured to serve as EDMI Group CEO, and firstly, I would like to express my thanks and acknowledgment to How New Seng for his leadership of EDMI over the last 5 years. During his time as the CEO, he has guided EDMI through some unprecedented market conditions,

We are heartbroken to announce that Neil Gibson, co-founder of EDMI passed away last week at the age of 77.

Neil Gibson founded the company as EDMQ (Electronic Design and Manufacturing Queensland, former name of EDMI) in 1978 in Australia alongside his friend, John Flood. In developing a vast array of technology products – everything from sign logic controllers, to public announcement systems, water management solutions and more, Mr. Gibson was dedicated to developing his knowledge and technologies across many fields. Complemented by Mr. Flood, the pair were the original champions of EDMI’s mission to challenge themselves and their colleagues to bring new and exciting ideas to market.

It was as a direct result of their leadership and vision that the very first grid interconnect meter Mk1 was brought out to the market in 1990, followed by the revolutionary Mk3 smart meter for the C&I sector in 1995. These releases redefined smart metering in Australia and internationally, and laid the foundations for EDMI’s dominant position in the global smart metering market.

EDMI is honoured to have inherited Mr. Gibson’s passion, innovation, knowledge, and collaborative spirit as part of our DNA today. Mr. Gibson will be deeply missed by all his family and friends at home, including the EDMI family.
