1978

EDMI started its journey in Brisbane, Australia, founded by two young engineers as Electronic Design and Manufacturing Queensland (EDMQ Pty Ltd). The company began as an engineering consultancy, delivering innovative solutions across various sectors.

1981

Renamed the company to EDMI – Electronic Design and Manufacturing International.

1982

Designed and produced electronic scoreboards for the 1982 XIIth Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia

1990

EDMI’s shift to the energy market came with the launch of the EDMI Mk1 Meter, a Class 0.2S high accuracy measurement meter designed specifically for the State Electricity Commission in Victoria, Australia.

EDMI entered the consumer energy metering market with its first product, an End Use Energy Monitor, addressing the need for accurate energy management in homes and businesses.

1995

EDMI released Mk3, its first meter designed to meet full IEC international standard, with a more manufacturable design and enhanced configurability for customers.

1996

Launch of the Mk6, the first model from the Genius Series meters for Commercial & Industrial and Low Voltage applications, driving significant growth beyond Australia by securing major customers in Asia and Europe.

EDMI Asia Pte Ltd was incorporated in Singapore.

Driven by strong sales of the Mk3 and Mk6 products, EDMI expanded its operations by investing in manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia (Singapore), enabling the company to scale and deliver high-quality products.

EDMI Asia was renamed to EDMI Limited.

Edmi History 2004

2004

Release of the Mk10 Atlas Series meter, our first residential meter platform. This product, along with its subsequent models, adapted EDMI’s high-end metering technology from the Genius Series meters into a more attractive product line for large-scale residential rollouts.

2012

EDMI was acquired by Osaki Electric Co., Ltd., a Japanese metering solutions provider listed on the Prime Market (formerly First Section) of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Outgrowing its manufacturing facility in Singapore, the company opened its current core manufacturing facility in Senai, Malaysia.

Launch of AMI 2.0 Solution powered by the EDMI Energy Cloud and our Storm software platform. Fully supporting previous generations of EDMI’s Atlas series meters, this solution enables tens of millions of meters to be managed and added more capabilities to AMI 1.0.

Edmi History 2016

2016

EDMI entered the Great Britain’s SMETS2 market as the selected supplier of communications hubs for the Northern region, later expanding its offering to include smart electricity and gas meters.

Edmi History 2022

2022

Introduction of EDMI’s first water meter to the market in Australia and New Zealand, applying its expertise in communications and battery-powered devices to adapt this technology to the water industry.

Edmi History 2024

2024

Achieved the SMETS2 milestone with the delivery of 5 million communications hubs and 4 million smart electricity and gas meters for Great Britain.
